Ten kilometers southeast of Troyan, in the northern foot of the Troyan part of the Stara Planina Mountain, stands the largest monastery in that mountain – the Troyan Stavropighial Monastery “The Assumption of the Holy Mother”. Ever since its creation in the 17 c. the monastery has been among the most precious Christian and cultural spots in Bulgaria.

The Museum of Crafts in the village of Oreshak is unique in its kind, specialized entirely in folk crafts and applied arts. Museum exhibition opened in 1968, presenting part of the rich collection of old and contemporary Bulgarian arts.
The village of Cherni Ossum is located on the two banks of the Cherni Ossum River, at the foot of Mt. Goljam Koupen and Mt.Vassil Levski. The sky above the village is home of a large number of eagles – therefore the eagle has been chosen to be the symbol of the village of Cherni Ossum and have been placed on top of a monument at the entrance of the village.

Only 20 km away from the town of Troyan stands Mt. Beklemeto. It features the best runs for biathlon and ski-running, with a length of 2, 3, 5, 7 and 10 km.

Apart from its numerous cultural and historical sights, the town of Troyan is also famous for its Culture Feasts (taking place twice in the year – once in May and once in the autumn) which present the achievements of both local artists and guests from all around the country. There are also a number of events taking place within the autumn Culture Feasts – for instance, the Feast of the Plums and the Plum Brandy (called “slivova rakia”), offering a large number of tasting events and competitions.

Troyan is one of the most picturesque and beautiful town in Bulgaria, featuring an amazingly rich historical heritage. The town is situated in the northern part of the country, 160 km northeast of Sofia, 300 km west of Varna and 140 km north of Plovdiv. It stands on the two banks of the Beli Ossum River. The strategic location of the town is predetermined by the Troyan Pass, connecting Northern to Southern Bulgaria.
